I
didn't interview Toshi again until almost two months later. I don't
remember why it took so long for us to reconnect, but it was
certainly a lot more time than I allowed to pass when I made the
first episode of Listen
To The City Breathe.
Well,
one thing that I remember was that I was try to film a lot of
different people at the same time. For the first episode, I had
almost unfettered access to Ramon Catalan. But I knew that subsequent
subjects would not be so free with their time, or privacy. That's one
reason that I decided to simply book interview times, and film
whoever, whenever I could. So, almost at the same time, I started
production on seven different episodes with seven different people. I
got overwhelmed and backlogged with content and footage.
Looking
back, I wonder if this sort of logic was best. For one thing, two of
the people basically dropped out, and one of the people suffered
terrible medical ailments that stopped production on that episode.
One of the episodes was completed as episode2, but that person
disallowed me to publicly broadcast that episode. Now that episode3
is completed and broadcast, I have two more sets of footage for two
more episodes on other people. Again, a lot of this footage goes back
to at least May, so I guess I have a lot of work to do in order to
get out of this backlog.
